Commercial Solar Panels
Commercial solar panel design, installation and maintenance for business premises across the UK. Free site survey, itemised quote, and one in-house team from first visit to handover.
Solar Panels for Commercial Buildings
Most businesses use the bulk of their electricity during the working day, which is exactly when a solar array generates. That is what makes commercial solar PV work. Electricity made on your own roof is used on site as it is produced, so you buy less from the grid at the daytime rate. The higher your daytime consumption, the more of your generation you use yourself, and that self-consumption is usually where the saving sits. Surplus can be held in a battery for the evening or exported, and we advise on the right mix for each site.
Integral Solar is a family-run installer with 25+ years' experience, MCS certified and NICEIC approved, with 1,000+ customers and 98% customer satisfaction. We design, install, commission and maintain commercial solar panel systems in-house. Every job is carried out by our own directly employed engineers, never subcontractors, and we operate across the UK. It starts with a free, no-obligation site survey and ends with an itemised design and quote for your building, not a brochure.
Commercial Solar Panel Systems
Rooftop solar is the core of most commercial projects. Battery storage and EV charging are designed in alongside it where they earn their place, and every system comes with monitoring.
Rooftop Solar
Roof-mounted arrays on flat and pitched commercial roofs. Large, uncomplicated roofs, flat or shallow-pitched, steel or membrane, typically suit sizeable arrays, and we check roof condition and structure before anything is designed. Monitoring lets you see generation and consumption from your desk. See commercial installation for the detail.
Commercial Battery Storage
Batteries hold daytime surplus for evening or overnight use, which matters for sites running shifts, refrigeration or late opening. We size storage from your consumption data rather than a rule of thumb, and it can go in with the panels or be added later. See commercial battery storage.
EV Charging
Workplace EV charging for fleets, staff and visitors, fed by the array where the numbers support it. Chargers are designed in alongside the solar and the supply so the load is managed sensibly, and they can be phased in as the fleet changes. See EV charging.
How a Commercial Project Runs
One team and one point of contact from first visit to handover.
Site Survey and Consumption Analysis
A free, no-obligation site survey covering roof condition, structure, access, the electrical supply and any shading. We analyse your consumption, using half-hourly data where it is available, along with shift patterns and your three-phase supply, so the array is sized for what you actually use.
Design and Itemised Quote
You receive a design with a realistic generation estimate and an itemised quote: panels, inverters, mounting, electrical works, access, monitoring and any battery or EV charging. The grid connection paperwork starts at this stage so it does not hold up the install.
Installation Around Your Operations
Our own engineers install to a schedule agreed with you, working around deliveries, shifts and trading hours. The switch-over to the new system is brief and planned in advance, so the site keeps running while the work goes on above it.
Commissioning, Handover and Maintenance
We commission and test the system, then hand over the MCS certificate, warranties and commissioning documentation with monitoring set up. Our commercial maintenance team can then look after the system for its working life.
Costs, Planning and Grid Connection
What It Costs and How It Pays
Every commercial quote is itemised after the survey, because the price depends on the building: roof type and condition, array size, access and scaffolding, the state of the existing electrical supply, and whether battery storage or EV charging is included. We do not quote from a postcode.
VAT on commercial installations is charged at the standard rate; the 0% rate applies to domestic installations only. Solar equipment may qualify for capital allowances, so confirm the tax treatment with your accountant. Export payments for surplus electricity may be available for eligible MCS-certified systems, and we advise on the position for your site. On-site generation also cuts the electricity you buy from the grid, which can support carbon reporting and sustainability commitments.
Planning, Grid and Paperwork
Most commercial rooftop solar is permitted development, subject to conditions. Some buildings do need a planning application, such as listed buildings, premises in conservation areas, arrays above certain sizes and ground-mounted systems. We check the planning position for your building before we quote.
Connecting a commercial array involves the Distribution Network Operator. We handle DNO notification and, where required, the G99 or G98 grid connection application as part of the project. Three-phase supplies are the norm on commercial sites and are built into the design from the start.
Sectors We Work With
Any building with a usable roof and daytime electricity demand is worth a look. These are the sectors we work with most often.
Commercial Solar Questions, Answered
The questions businesses ask us before they commit. If yours is not here, call 0333 241 4320 or email [email protected].
How much do commercial solar panels cost?
There is no standard price, so we do not publish one. Every commercial quote is itemised after a free site survey. The main drivers are array size, roof type and condition, access and scaffolding, the state of the existing electrical supply, and whether battery storage or EV charging is included. You see each line of the quote, so you know exactly what you are paying for and why.
Is VAT charged on commercial solar panels?
Yes. VAT on commercial installations is charged at the standard rate. The 0% VAT rate applies to domestic installations only, so it does not apply to business premises. Solar equipment may qualify for capital allowances, which can affect the overall cost to the business, but tax treatment depends on your circumstances, so confirm it with your accountant before you commit.
Will solar panels disrupt our operations during installation?
We plan the installation around your operations. Roof work, cabling and the inverter installation are scheduled with you in advance, working around deliveries, shift changes and trading hours, and access routes are agreed before we arrive. The final switch-over to the new system is brief and timed to suit you. Most of the work happens on the roof and in the plant or switch room, away from day-to-day activity.
Do we need planning permission for commercial solar panels?
Usually not. Most commercial rooftop solar is permitted development, subject to conditions. Some buildings do need an application, including listed buildings, premises in conservation areas, arrays above certain sizes and ground-mounted systems. We check the planning position for your building before we quote and tell you if an application is needed, so there are no surprises once the project is under way.
Can we add battery storage or EV charging later?
Yes. Commercial battery storage and EV charging can be installed alongside the panels or added later, and we design with that in mind: inverter choice, cable routes and the supply are specified so an upgrade is straightforward. If you are weighing it up, tell us at the survey. We will show you the options, and a battery is sized from your consumption data rather than guessed.
What happens after installation?
We commission and test the system, then hand over your MCS certificate, warranties and commissioning documentation. Monitoring is set up so you can check generation and consumption at any time. After that, our own engineers can look after the system through a commercial maintenance plan covering inspections, cleaning and fault response, so it keeps performing for its working life.
